Options for the award of QTS in 2020

A summary of the key issues and considerations sent to the Department for Education (DfE), on how to support those studying to become teachers, including those on PGCE courses, during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

This includes considerations relating to:

• Allowing students to continue on their path to qualified teacher status (QTS) and how they can be supported
• Offering bespoke, tailored support and online materials for students who need it in order to obtain QTS while maintaining academic and professional standards
• The timing of school placements and bursary payments to support students who need to delay their placements
• Supporting newly qualified teachers (NQTs) with an enhanced programme of continuing professional development
