UUK report on grade inflation

28 November 2018

Responding to the report from Universities UK and the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment on grade inflation – Degree Classification: Transparent, Consistent and Fair Academic Standards, Sarah Stevens, Head of Policy at the Russell Group, said:

“We welcome this report and the work conducted by UUK and the UKSCQA. The Russell Group will be engaging with the recommendations in detail and responding in due course.

“It is right that we ask why degree attainment is continuing to rise. While this is a complex issue with many contributing factors, this report’s focus on improving transparency and consistency on academic standards should help to ensure the interests of students and employers are safeguarded.

“We share the commitment to make sure public confidence in the degree classification system is maintained as this is critical in sustaining UK higher education’s world-class reputation.”
