Russell Group response to 2023 TEF results

28 September 2023

Following the publication of the results of the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) exercise carried out by the Office for Students (OfS), Jamie Roberts, Policy Manager at the Russell Group, said:

"Our members provide outstanding teaching and learning informed by world-class research, and this is reflected in completion rates and levels of highly-skilled employment for their graduates. They will continue to listen and work with students, striving for excellence to ensure every student gets the education they deserve.

"TEF is not an absolute measure of quality and it is vital that applicants in the UK and abroad receive clear information about what today’s results mean. We want to work closely with the OfS to reflect on the changes to TEF and review this year’s exercise to ensure it adds value to the sector and for students and encourages enhancement in teaching."

Notes

The average completion rates at Russell Group universities is 95.4%, compared to the OfS’s condition B3 threshold of 75%.

84% of working Russell Group graduates are in highly-skilled employment in comparison to 71% at other institutions.
