The team of 12 students provide pastoral support for new undergraduates and postgraduate students who live in halls of residence. The service is available to students from when they first receive their accommodation offer.

The SMS helps students with a wide variety of issues, including dealing with homesickness, exam stress or money concerns.

Support includes a full timetable of activity during the first week that new students arrive in Birmingham, 1-2-1 mentoring support, drop in sessions throughout the year and mediation services to help resolve accommodation issues.

The SMS also provides students with useful information to help them tackle important student issues, including personal safety, house hunting and extenuating circumstances.
