Written Ministerial Statement on student support

Commenting on the Written Ministerial Statement on student support for the 2015/16 academic year, Dr Wendy Piatt, Director General of the Russell Group, said:

“It is disappointing that for the second year running the fee cap will not increase with inflation in 2015/16 –meaning in effect a real-terms cut in funding.

“Universities in England are now dependent on tuition fee income which will have largely replaced teaching grant by 2015/16.  We fear this decision will make it increasingly hard for our universities to remain world-class.”
