QSES International Student Survey

09 May 2018

In response to the publication of the QS Enrolment Solutions International Student Survey 2018, Dr Hollie Chandler, Senior Policy Analyst at the Russell Group said:

“There are over 70,000 EU nationals studying at Russell Group universities. These students are making valuable contributions to our campuses and enriching the learning environment for all students.

“We’re concerned that survey data published this week suggests some prospective EU students are less interested in coming to the UK as a result Brexit, with finances at the top of their list of concerns. It has already been confirmed that EU students starting courses in 2018/19 will remain eligible for home fee rates and able to access loans and grants for the duration of their course. The Government needs to do more to ensure this guarantee is being communicated clearly and effectively across the EU.

“As many students looking to enroll next year will already be deciding where to apply, the Government should also extend this fee guarantee to EU students starting courses in 2019/20 at the earliest opportunity.

“We want EU nationals to continue to choose the UK as a study destination and hope further clarity about university fees and funding will encourage them to apply with confidence.”
