New OfS analysis on the pressures on university finances

The Office for Students has today (Thursday 8 May) published its latest report on the financial sustainability of universities.
Responding to the report, Dr Hollie Chandler, Director of Policy at the Russell Group, commented:
“Today’s report is another reminder of the continued financial challenges universities are facing. Institutions are working hard to mitigate these challenges by making efficiencies and thinking creatively about how they can reduce costs while continuing to deliver high-quality education and research – but many are also having to take very difficult decisions to protect their long-term futures.
“These measures alone won’t be sufficient without action from government to create a long-term sustainable funding landscape for the sector.
"As well as increased per-student funding, this must include a stable and welcoming immigration system, protecting the current Graduate Route, so universities can continue to recruit international students. Any restrictions to this route would diminish the UK’s attractiveness as a study destination, putting at risk world-leading research, high-quality teaching and universities’ ability to contribute to vital economic growth”.
