A contextual admissions programme helps more care-experienced students access higher education

All care-experienced students who receive an offer to study at the University of Birmingham are given a contextual offer. This is typically one grade below the standard offer for each programme.

Students do not need to apply for this; instead, students are identified when they tick the box on their UCAS form to show they have experienced time in care. Self-identifying in this way means that students will be proactively contacted by a member of the University of Birmingham outreach team who is dedicated to supporting care-experienced students prior to entry.

The university also share details of its Offer-holder Visit Day Travel Bursary with care experienced students, to support them to be able to visit campus.

For students looking for additional support, care experienced students receive priority consideration for the university's extensive widening participation programmes, which are linked to alternative offers and enhanced funding.
