Undergraduate study
Undergraduate degrees from Russell Group universities are respected throughout the world. Whichever course you choose, you can expect to be challenged intellectually and encouraged to develop your ability to learn and to think independently.
Between them, Russell Group universities offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes, covering many different subject areas. (See right)
Whether you are from the UK or elsewhere in Europe or an international student, your choice of university will be a very personal one, reflecting your own interests and preferences. You might, for example, want to think about:
- The availability of a particular subject or combination of subjects.
- The aspects of your chosen subject which each university has chosen to focus on.
- The kinds of teaching methods employed.
- The potential for internships or periods of study overseas as part of your degree.
- Your long-term career plans, particularly where you are considering a career which requires a specific degree subject. (And a Russell Group degree confers a salary top-up of approximately 10% over a lifetime compared with other graduates.)
- The published entry requirements – while competition for places at Russell Group universities is generally high, offer grades will still vary, reflecting differences in the popularity of subjects or local admissions policies.
- The location of the university - you will find Russell Group universities in all the major cities of the UK with the facilities and opportunities that go with them.
- The nature of the experience you are looking for – for example, campus/non-campus; urban/rural.
- The nature of any financial support on offer.
- More personal factors – such as distance from home or opportunities to pursue an individual interest or hobby.

We are committed to ensuring that the opportunity to study at a Russell Group university is open to as wide a range of students as possible. Our universities offer activities and events specifically for students from backgrounds where there is little or no tradition of applying to higher education. Many also have access or compact programmes, designed to support students to prepare and move on to university. See university websites for details.
