Degree Apprenticeships

Commenting on the launch of Degree Apprenticeships, Dr Wendy Piatt, Director General of The Russell Group, said:

“We welcome the launch of the Degree Apprenticeships scheme, which offers many benefits to universities, employers and their prospective students and employees. The scheme could assist in strengthening universities’ links with the business community and now, more than ever, employers want graduates who come with the right skills, ready for the workplace.

“The apprenticeships create opportunities for students to study while working and the flexibility to fit this around their job has the potential to help universities to attract students from more diverse backgrounds.

“Good teaching needs proper funding to be sustainable and it is important that these new degrees continue to be funded from a separate source rather than the current tight teaching budgets.”
