Helen Thorne
Head of research policy & operations
Previously director of the Research Councils UK office in the US, Helen brings to her new role years of experience of research policy at a senior level. Before moving to the organisation’s Washington office where she built links with American funding bodies and increased joint funding, she was head of the RCUK secretariat for five years. She was awarded an MBE for services to the administration of science in 2007.
Before that she worked at the Natural Environment Research Council, becoming head of strategic planning. Helen graduated with a BSc in biology from the University of York.
Responsibilities
All issues relating to the running of the organisation, including human resources and staff management; financial operations; planning; managing our work-streams for research policy and teaching and learning.
