Donald MacLeod
Head of communications
Donald joined the Russell Group after 16 years at the Guardian, covering every aspect of education both for the paper and online. In addition to reporting and analysis, he edited the Guardian’s education supplement and education website; he introduced and oversaw the Guardian’s university guide and, more recently, the postgraduate guide.
After graduating with a history degree from Lincoln College, Oxford, he trained as a journalist on his local paper and later worked on the Scotsman before moving to the Independent and then to the Guardian.
Responsibilities
Media strategy, including the website, statements to the media and placing features and articles; liaising with the communications directors of the 20 institutions; events; parliamentary and Civil Service contacts.
