Testing the medicines of the future at King's
Exploring the potential of new drugs with a leading pharmaceutical company
The world-leading quality of biomedical research at King’s has secured a major investment from leading pharmaceutical company Wyeth (now Pfizer).
The Wyeth Early Clinical Development Centre at King’s was established in April 2007, in collaboration with King’s partner NHS trusts. The only such centre in Western Europe, it aims to accelerate the progress of clinical trials and facilitate the set-up phase.
The Centre is expected to leverage significant research investment over the next few years, and will be a fulcrum for new clinical studies, many of which will be first-into-man trials of new medicines.
As well as this substantial investment from Wyeth, King’s College’s world-class reputation for biomedical research, cemented by the award of Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), has also led to significant research investment by other major pharmaceutical companies such as GSK and Pfizer. Of the 12 BRCs established in the UK, all are based at Russell Group universities, and have attracted major investment from pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms around the world.
